Short articles about one of the founding Tokmakov lines, drawn from two sources that stay linked throughout: the original hand-drawn sheet and the digital tree reconstruction built from it.
On the original sheet «Родословная Токмаковых» the name СТЕПАН is written in large block letters beside ПЁТР, ВАСИЛИЙ, ДМИТРИЙ, НИКИТА and КАРП — the родоначальники, the men from whom the recorded lines descend. Stepan heads one of these trunk branches.
Beneath his name the sheet lists nine children: Пётр (marked «Павел?» — the compiler was unsure), Анна (ум. 1921), Илья, Руф, Степан (1840–1887), Ольга (1830–1904), Лазарь, Павел and Афросин. The two dated children place this generation firmly in the mid-nineteenth century.
What the sheet records — and what it leaves out
The sheet is a working family document, not a parish register. Dates survive only where a descendant remembered them: Ольга (1830–1904) and Степан (1840–1887) carry full years, while most of their brothers and sisters carry none.
Where the compiler doubted a reading he said so on the paper. «Пётр (Павел?)» preserves both versions of one name rather than choosing between them — a small but valuable honesty that the digital reconstruction keeps visible in red.
Reading the uncertain names
In the digital reconstruction, 9 of the 10 people currently placed under Stepan are shown in red as uncertain. This does not mean they did not exist — it means the handwriting, the connecting lines, or the exact parentage could not be confirmed from the scan alone.
Crossing lines and rotated captions are the main problem. The reconstruction only draws a parent line where the paper reads clearly; everything else stays flagged until a family member confirms it with a record or a memory.
